SSDD Still…

November 30th, 2009 . by Doc

I know. I know. I could be a bit better at posting even through my crappy internet connection. Most times I feel busy and just don’t feel like the hassle of hooking up the phone and enduring dial-up speeds. Ugh!

Not much different going on. Weather is still lousy and getting lousier every day. Not raining for the next few days anyway. Getting colder though. Ugh.

Had a pretty good Thanksgiving (again!) this year. Relatives & Friends over for dinner. SWMBO made her usual excellent turkey breasts. Gave our Son and SWMBO’s brother plenty to take home afterwards. I still have a whole turkey breast for cold turkey sandwiches! Cool! I love cold turkey sandwiches. The mayo probably isn’t very good for me, but I still like cold turkey sandwiches. And it ain’t a cold turkey sandwich without mayo.

Getting my pool playing skills back by playing at least a game a day. Like it!

Still going over to my friends house and downloading our favorite tv shows. No new Smallville or Supernatural for a few weeks. Ugh!

Still working on building bookcases. Have two more for the library then 2 for our bedroom (headboard) and I should be done with bookcases. Then I can start on shelves for the back of the pantry, shelves for the closet off the living room and shelves for the garage. And I’m going to build a new base for our bed with a new headboard to fit between the bookcases.

Got out and about and stopped by Staples and bought some blank DVD-R’s. Then stopped by my friends house and downloaded a couple of things. Then stopped by Home Depot and bought some wood for shelves for the bookcases I’m working on and wood for SWMBO’s "felt wall" that she wants me to make for her to hang quilting squares on before she sews them together. Installed a motion detecting light over the basement back door this evening.

So it ain’t like I got nothin’ to do!

Dang! It’s raining again and the motion detecting light is going on and off. Maybe I have it set too sensitive?

Four police officers were killed in (Lakewood? Whatever’s just south of Tacoma) either late last night or early this morning. Cops think there might be an undeclared war against them going on (or just starting). Feel sorry for the cops families.

Oh, SWMBO bought a new car. 2009 KIA Sportage V6 4-wheel drive that’s bright blue in color. I like it. Fanciest thing in it for me is the usb port that you can plug a thumb drive into and the radio picks up any music on it and plays it through the radio. Cool! (Have we seen the end of the cd?) SWMBO likes listening to the comedy on the satellite radio while her complimentary subscription is still good. Nice little car.

SWMBO has made our reservations at the motel in Bend, Oregon for us to stay next summer for the Sister’s Quilt Show. We’re planning to go down 2 days early and spend some time just driving around the desert. Cool!

Bought a film/slide scanner at COSTCO ($50) and have been scanning old negatives. Lots of pictures I never had printed up. There’s some of the Ex- that she definitely wouldn’t want to get out! :-P Lots of black and white photos. Uploaded some lightning photo’s to my personal album that I took WAY back in 1975 in Baltimore, Md. Also got a program called "Paperport" and am scanning all my old magazines (that I’ve kept for years) into .pdf format. It helps you get your documents organized and is working great.

Oh yeah. SWMBO had her 50th birthday. Hard to believe. She still seems young to me. Took her out for a birthday breakfast and a short drive around. She has the next week off work so she wanted to get started on the million and one things she wants to accomplish.

Gotta go! Rodan is kicking ass!

This is
a great idea.  Only need 3/4 of the State Legislatures to pass =
this
to become law…AND IT IS VETO PROOF including no appeal to
the Supreme Court.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States =
Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the =
citizens of
the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators =
and/or
Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the =
Senators
and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens =
of the
United States".

Let’s get this passed around – Congress has brought this upon =
themselves

We Have Had More Fookin’ Rain Around Here…

November 18th, 2009 . by Doc

Than I care to experience. It’s WET out there! Has been this past week or more. Heavy winds and Heavy rain occasionally. Had to get out on my digger and make channels for the water to go around the house instead of through it! A tree was blown over and blocked the road so the next day I rode my digger down there and moved it off to the side so we could all get in and out. I hate rain! We’ve already had so much that I’d prefer to see it snow. And the weatherpersons are saying don’t be surprised to wake up to some snow on the ground in the lowlands the next few days. Cascade mountains (fairly close) are supposed to get around 36" of snow over the next couple of days. More storms coming in! We already have flooding all over the place!

Crappy Weather Coming! Still!

Good thing I have a woodshop (sort of) set up in the basement. Been working on more bookshelves. Just found 2 more boxes of hardback books too. Spent part of today making a cue holder for the cue sticks that came with the Pool Table we got last weekend. I don’t do too bad working with wood as long as I take my time.

Really enjoying the new Pool Table! Maybe one of these days SWMBO will get over her shyness and play me a game or two.

Not much else going on. Still going over to my friends house on Saturday and downloading my favorite tv shows to watch later. Smallville is coming along nicely. NCIS is killer! The new "V" hasn’t really caught me yet. Oh well.

Oh, they caught the guy that killed that cop a few days ago. Now the news spends the first 5 minutes reporting how he’s doing in the hospital and the likelihood of him getting the death penalty et al ad nausium. It even seems to be more important than the flooding that’s going on around here.

Speaking of flooding; SWMBO and I tried to go to Applebee’s for the free dinner they were serving any active duty or retired military for Veteran’s Day. We got to the Applebee’s in Silverdale around 1145 and the line of people waiting for seating went half way around the building! (You could say they had a FLOOD of folks for free eats!) We decided to skip the wait and ate Mall Food instead. This one place makes a nice Bourbon Chicken…

Dang! My internet connection if really slow tonight! Trying to read the news…

Judge: Corps’ negligence caused Katrina flooding: And here I was thinking Hurricane Katrina caused the flooding. But ain’t it just like some folks to sue the government (and win!) because they weren’t "protected" from flooding after They decided to build below sea level in an area that’s prone to flooding from hurricanes? Hmmm. Wonder if I can sue the state of Washington for having too much rain cause I can’t go outside and do things without getting wet?

President Barack Obama suggested on Wednesday the self-professed mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks would be convicted and put to death, but later said he was not trying to prejudge the trial.: Really? They why’d he say anything? (Guy’s a deader now.)

Construction of new homes in the United States hit a six month low in October, providing more evidence of the economy’s sluggish recovery: Duh! You can’t build a new (energy efficient) house because no bank will loan you the money for it. No wonder new construction has hit a new low. (I know this from personal experience.)

More than $98 billion in taxpayer dollars spent by government agencies was wasted, much of it on questionable claims for tax credits and Medicare benefits: As opposed to the 700+ Billion we (our government) gave to the banks and auto industries and other folks that aren’t helping us like they were supposed to.

Calif. requires TVs to be more energy-efficient: Wouldn’t they do better by requiring all those couch potato’s be more energetic instead? Get them outdoors at the beach or someplace.

Hundreds cheer Palin in Mich. for book tour: Mostly Alaskan residents…

Janet Jackson: Michael in denial over drug problem: Still? You’d think he’d be over that by now.

A London-based translation firm is offering parents-to-be the chance to check the meaning of prospective baby names in other languages to avoid inadvertently causing their offspring future embarrassment.: So, pukeface is out?

Jack Sim, founder of the World Toilet Organization, has a theory about why governments and people are so reluctant to talk about hygiene: it isn’t cool.: He obviously hasn’t set his ass down on MY toilet seat! That sucker’s Cold!

Lost man drives nine hours to get newspaper: We just WON’T ask for directions, will we?

I’m outta here!

Just A Quick Note This Rainy Day

November 16th, 2009 . by Doc

Lots of RAIN. Lots of rain. Some wind. Had to get out on my digger (in the rain) and make places for the water to go away from the house. Rather cool out there! Supposed to get up to 10 inches of rain in the Cascade Foothills. That’s not too far away from us.

I’m having a real problem…

November 3rd, 2009 . by Doc

Three days ago a police officer was killed in Seattle and the news has spent, in my opinion, WAY too much time on the murder and the search for who did it. Please, don’t get me wrong: I am sincerely sorry that an officer was killed. What gets me is the amount of coverage for it while all we hear when a service member dies overseas is "Seven soldiers died in Iraq/Afghanistan today." and its off to the weather. Oh, occasionally they’ll show us a picture if the soldier was a local and may even mention that there will be a memorial service but even that seems rare. The local news shows have spent hours showing us damned near everything they can about this one officer and the aftermath. I’m having a problem with that. But, I do expect the News to either over-something or trivialize a story. They all slant things. I could go on for hours. Don’t get me started.

Things are going well. SWMBO got back from her trip to Oregon, Ohio over a week ago and it’s really great having her back. I had to drive around the airport arrivals lane only twice before picking her up! Cool! Poop Dog went absolutely ape when SWMBO got out of the car at home!

Other than that things are pretty much SSDD. Still working on bookshelves. Still ripping our tv shows to the media drive. Walking down to get mail when it ain’t raining.

Moved all the furniture around in the "family" room (where my computer is) to make room for the new Pool Table SWMBO is getting us. Everything was going okay until the tv fell over off the couch. Ouch! That’s the second time that’s happened in the last 10 years! Damn! You’d think I’d learn after the first time. Got things mostly in place but won’t be able to do the final move until I actually get the pool table in the room to see how everything fits. Next Saturday. Looking forward to it.

And that’s it from Warshington…
